Painter Ieva Rubene’s joint work with Dārta in the project "Creation of the World"

CREATION OF THE WORLD is an art project that unites 12 well-known Latvian artists - painters in synergy with the young people of the association, creating the world on canvas together.

The purpose of the project is to collect donations for the creation of a group home, as well as to emphasize that people with severe developmental disabilities are able to contribute to society and are a part of it.

All donations received are 100% donated to the association "Latvijas Kustība par neatkarīgu dzīvi" (Latvian Movement for Independent Life) for the dream of a group home.

Dārta is 31 years old. Dārta has complex developmental disabilities. Dārta likes to be in the company of other people. Dārta knows what it means to live in a family when you can get support at any moment. Darta dreams of a home where she will never be afraid to stumble, because there will be someone nearby to help her stand up.

“I was very surprised by Dārta's sincerity and courage, she immediately took a brush and without hesitation dipped it in paint and drew lines as she felt, without borders and frames, without learned correctness. In the finished painting, I have left more than what is familiar and understandable to the mind and eyes, because there is much more besides all that, and Dārta's bold brushstrokes prove it. I really enjoyed this process, when we could paint together, feeling each other at the level of the heart, not the mind. Dārta hugged me several times, just like that, because she wanted to, moving me to tears. And I hope that the exhibition and joint works will appeal to people, and together we will manage to take steps closer to the realization of the dream - the creation of a group home,” says the painter.
