Painter Sabīne Līva’s joint work with Kārlis in the project "Creation of the World"

CREATION OF THE WORLD is an art project that unites 12 well-known Latvian artists - painters in synergy with the young people of the association, creating the world on canvas together.

The purpose of the project is to collect donations for the creation of a group home, as well as to emphasize that people with severe developmental disabilities are able to contribute to society and are a part of it.

All donations received are 100% donated to the association "Latvijas Kustība par neatkarīgu dzīvi" (Latvian Movement for Independent Life) for the dream of a group home.

Kārlis is 28 years old. He is almost deaf, with complex developmental disabilities. On a daily basis, due to severe movement disorders, he moves by sticking to nearby objects. Kārlis needs 24-hour care. The group home is his hope for the future.

“When starting the work, I gave Kārlis absolute freedom, taking into account the limiting factor of mobility impairment. Kárlis started the work with a dark tone, but, I think, inspired by the process, his hand intuitively reached for the light colors. Colors inspire! You can see boats in the work, which are very symbolic, because sometimes you are alone in them and you sail through life, but here and now - Kārlis and I are together in the same boat. Together, to help him sail to the port of peace - a home where Kārlis will be well taken care of,” says the painter.

Kārlis and Sabīne Līva together created the work "Balance", 115x95 cm, oil on canvas, pieces of candle wax are embedded in the painting.
